Accelerated Instructional Model
What students are saying
"AIM has literally changed my life. It’s full of understanding, helpful and loving teachers and students. I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have AIM."
"I love you guys. I could go on for days about how much all of you have motivated me and helped me to want to be successful. I really can never repay what you have done for me and other students."

What is AIM?

The Accelerated Instruction Model or AIM is an initiative of Galveston Independent School District designed to provide a flexible, self-paced learning environment for high school students. AIM epitomizes a smaller learning community where students enjoy a personal setting and individualized instruction. Classes are small, teachers are caring, and counseling is ongoing.

AIM serves a dual role for Galveston ISD. First, it functions as a credit recovery program for students behind in credits and at risk of dropping out or not graduating on time. Secondly, AIM serves as a credit accrual program for students whose life circumstances necessitate an early graduation or students who might be more successful in a small, nontraditional school setting. Graduates of AIM receive their diplomas from Ball High School and are invited to participate in all graduation activities.

How does AIM work?

AIM blends a variety of instructional methods--individualized learning packets, technology and direct teacher instruction--to meet the individual needs of students. Modular instructional packets in the four core subject areas of math, science, language arts, and social studies are specifically developed. Certified teachers in each core area provide instruction and facilitate learning for students.

Self-paced computer instruction is another component of AIM, enabling students to use technology to complete coursework more quickly. Students in AIM earn high school credits as they demonstrate mastery of course material. Students should complete a semester course in 6 to 9 weeks. Students who complete one course are immediately enrolled in the next. AIM students must also meet requirements set forth by the Texas Education Agency and must pass TAKS tests in order to graduate.

Students at AIM follow the traditional 187-day school calendar observed by all GISD schools. Classes are held Monday through Friday from 7:55 – 2:50. Teachers are available after school for tutoring. Students follow a 6 period day with 60 minute classes. As students complete courses, they are sometimes double blocked into classes in order to complete course requirements faster.
