Summer is here! So what should you be doing as a Fine Arts Student over the Summer?

First of all - keeping up with your art. Regardless of which discipline you approach (Art, Dance, Music or Theatre) you should keep in practice.

Practicing a musical instrument for 30 minutes each day will help ensure that you continue to improve and that you do not lose any ground from where you were at the end of the school year.

Every Fine Arts person is like an athlete - the muscles we do not use atrophy and then have to be rebuilt. It is much easier to keep them going than to rebuild them in the Fall.

There are lots of Music Camps in Texas (almost every college provides Band and Choir camps). Run a Google search for Band Camps Texas and you will see what I mean. The closest are in Houston. (The same search works for Choir Camps Texas.)

A number of the Theatre students from Ball are on their way to Stavanger Norway for "Texas Days in Stavanger." We wish them well and "break a leg."

Have a great summer - get involved in the arts for the summer either by practicing yourself or attending camps - or both.

We look forward to a great year in the Fall 2010-11 Here we come!

Many people have asked what they can do to help us out.

We lost a great deal at Central School - music, band instruments,
pianos, handbells - lots of damage being submerged in salt water.

Burnet and Scott also have damage in the Art and Music rooms.
{Kawai Baby Grand Piano - after IKE}
Donations of music and instruments and art supplies will be gratefully accepted.
Monetary donations can be made for the Fine Arts through the
Galveston ISD Educational Foundation
