The award-winning GISD Communications Department is deals with several facets of the public school system. These roles include: 1. Media relations through an open-book policy that promotes the positive aspects of the school district and the importance of public education in Galveston and on Bolivar Peninsula
2. Receives and collects and Freedom of Information Requests
3. Manages GISD-TV, Channel 17 for Comcast subscribers
4. Manages all GISD websites under the www.gisd.org umbrella
5. Oversees all official GISD social media sites
6. Compiles and releases the official district newsletter, The Wave
7. Fulfills letter of authorization requests for flyer distribution by non-profit entities 8. Takes photos and shoots video of a variety of district events
9. Manages district graphic design work
10. Represents the school district at any and all community outreach events, including serving on committees and boards at the local level
11. Creates marketing material for the district
12. Arranges and approaches local entities for sponsorship opportunities
13. Oversees the organization and planning of certain district events |

Publications The GISD Communications Department releases the award-winning district newsletter, The Wave, via email. Any parents, students, or members of the community are welcome to join the email list by emailing communications@gisd.org. The Wave comes out several times each month and provides an extensive overview of events, news, and achievements at the schools within the district. |
