March 31 Update: Galveston ISD is joining other districts in the state by closing until May 4. All GISD campuses and facilities will be closed and all extracurricular activities and school events are canceled during this period.
Governor Abbott announced Tuesday, March 31, that all schools in Texas should close through April 30, with an anticipated re-opening on May 4, mirroring recommendations from the federal government, to further reduce the spread of COVID-19.
The health and safety of our students and staff is our first priority. We ask everyone in the Galveston ISD community to do your part to help prevent the spread of virus by adhering to local stay-at-home orders and taking everyday preventative actions to stop transmission.
Galveston ISD will continue its curbside meal service and at-home and digital learning throughout this closure.

Three Teen Health clinics with exterior doors have reopened on Monday, March 23. They will begin making appointments for children who do not have any symptoms or contacts that could indicate a Coronavirus case. Appointments are required until further notice and patients will be screened on the phone and at the door.
Torres, a Ball High School senior, will become the school’s first graduate since 1991 to become a first-year cadet, or plebe, at the United States Military Academy at West Point.
The National Forum to Accelerate Middle-Grades Reform and the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals as part of a national recognition program have designated Austin Middle School in Galveston, TX and Galveston ISD as a Texas School to Watch! Austin Middle School joins approximately 50 other campuses across Texas with this distinction and honor.
The Grand is pleased to announce The 25th Annual Grand Kids Festival Banner contest awards! This year, The Grand had 4 districts from Galveston County participate in the annual contest. There were over 1000 entries that went through a two phase selection process. Each year, when the entries are received, 200 of the most outstanding are selected to move on, 50 in each category.
Diagnosed at age 12, the now-18-year-old is living with intractable, drug-resistant epilepsy. He’s a crusader for epilepsy awareness. And he was instrumental in the passage of HB 684, also known as Sam’s Law, passed in this year’s session of the Texas Legislature. The law, now in effect, requires all Texas public school personnel whose duties include regular contact with students to be trained in seizure recognition and seizure first aid.
