Mr. James Stettner
Fine Arts Teacher
My name is James Stettner, I have been teaching fine art at Ball High School since 2014. I began painting and drawing at an early age, I was so infatuated with art that at the age of 13 my parents felt the need to purchase my first oil set and easel. I attended college at the State University of New York where I acquired a B.F.A. in 1993 with a concentration in painting. I graduated with honors (summa cum laude), and was nominated Departmental Scholar by the faculty of the S.U.N.Y. Art Department. After college I continued to paint and exhibit in various venues. I apprenticed for an artist in Upstate New York where I created copper hollowware, and finish numerous sculptures, including candle holders for the White House Collection; they are currently on permanent display at the Smithsonian. In 1993 I began a successful graphic design business working with the local high school to help teach students graphic designing by way of a work-study program. I continued teaching part-time at a private school which began my passion for disseminating my knowledge of fine arts. My Philosophy for teaching art is to help students gain spatial intelligence, creative problem-solving skills, and to help them to obtain a passion for art that surrounds their world.
