Mr. Justin Davis
Why, Hello. My name is Justin Davis and I am the band director of Collegiate Academy. I started teaching in Galveston at the start of the 2016-17 school year. Before this I was the head junior high band director of a growing band program at Falfurrias Junior High, from 2013-2016. I Graduated with my Bachelors of Music from Stephen F. Austin in May of 2011. My goal as I teach here in Galveston is to grow the music program and build a strong foundation as I lead students to the Ball High Band. To do this I have to have an active community outreach, Parental and Staff/Administration involvement, and building the overall success of the band program. My primary instrument is the Saxophone and I currently play in the Galveston Community Band to keep up my skills and learn more about my instrument. For me to be an amazing teacher you must continue to learn and be an amazing student and I learn each day from the students I teach. My favorite thing to teach is the Middle School level, especially the beginning band, watching kids grow from nothing gives me the greatest feeling of accomplishment more then even completing my degree in education.
I come from a small high school in Ingram, Texas that has a struggling band program and I wanted to go out and teach music to help programs like the one I was in (after, of course, I found out in my senior you’re of high school I no longer wanted to do marine biology). From there I entered Tyler Junior College, TJC, to start of my journey in music education and I participated in the College Marching, Concert and Jazz bands in my two years there. After I left TJC I entered Stephen F. Austin State University, SFA, to finish off my degree, while I was at SFA I pushed myself to be a better musician as I still participated in the College Marching, Concert and Jazz bands, I also joined the Basketball pep-band and Saxophone Quartet. I bleed purple, GO JACKS, so Galveston is the right place for me (also I'm a beach bum at heart so living on an island helps fulfill that part of me that has been missing for so long).
I grew up and went to school in the small town of Ingram, TX. I ended up to going to Tyler Junior College for 2 years then transferred to Stephen F. Austin State University in a Degree in Music Education. Before coming to Galveston I tough at a small school in Falfurrias Texas for 3 years and I am starting my 5th year in Galveston.
