Mrs. Maggie Queen

Algebra I Teacher/Collaborative Learning Facilitator

Hello! My name is Maggie Queen and I teach math at Ball High School. I have been teaching since 2013, first in Pasadena ISD at Dobie High School from 2013-2015, then at Lewis Career & Technical High School from 2015-2018, and now in Galveston. While I have taught many different math classes, Algebra 1 is my favorite! I strive to make learning math interesting and relevant through technology and problem-solving— math is P.E. for your brain, let’s work out together! My college experience was somewhat non-traditional— I started out in engineering, earned a degree in Spanish linguistics, then went back to school to be a math teacher. Though it took me some time to truly figure out where I wanted to go, this combination of experiences has opened many doors for me: I was able to run track at a Division III college, study abroad in Spain, and communicate with a wide range of people. Not every path is the same, and that’s OK as long as you end up in a place you love. My husband and I live in Galveston with our two pups, Harley and Pepper. We love spending time outside, enjoying the island, and traveling! I’m an avid reader and love giving and receiving book recommendations— if you’ve read something awesome recently, I’d love to hear all about it! I’m working on building a small classroom library of my favorite novels. I also love food, and count my blessings every day that I get to live in a community with so many delicious and diverse dining options! To my students: You’ve got this! Work hard, be humble, and ask all the questions. To parents: I look forward to working as a team to help your student be successful!
