Mr. William Byczek

Spanish Teacher

Hello, my name is William (Bill) Byczek. I teach Spanish at Ball High School. I previously taught at Ball from 2006 to 2010. After teaching several more years in Houston ISD, I returned to Ball High. I am married with two grown children. We have lived either part-time or full-time in Galveston since 1996. Prior to teaching, I had a successful 30+ year career in business.

As you may have guessed from looking at my last name, I am not of Hispanic heritage and I am not a native Spanish speaker. I took my first Spanish class in my freshman year of high school. It soon became my favorite class and I took Spanish all four years of high school. When I went to college, I had some free time on my schedule so I enrolled in another Spanish class. Although I was an Accountancy major, I continued to take Spanish through my college years. In my senior year, I had the privilege of attending the Universitat de Barcelona. I lived with Spaniards and was able to greatly improve my ability to speak, understand, read and write Spanish.

Spanish has been a great source of fun for me in travel and in making friends. My hope is that I will be able to get my students to be open minded about learning a new language and to see the benefits of doing so.

I look forward to having an interesting, fun, and educational year with our students.
