Mrs. Mykel Hayden

Arts/AV Instructor

Hey there, my name is Mykel (pronounced Michael) Hayden, I am an Arts, Audiovisual, Technology, and Communications teacher at Ball High School.
I'm originally from New Braunfels, TX in the heart of the Texas Hill Country. My husband, kiddos and I decided to make a move back to Galveston County where he grew up in 2020. Teaching is my second career as I spent 12 years as a Graphic Designer in various positions including freelance design before starting my teaching career in 2017. I began teaching graphic design at my HS alma mater, New Braunfels High School, in 2017 while working on my Alternative Teaching Certificate. This is where I discovered that I had truly found my calling. I believe my experience in the business world, especially in the graphic design industry makes me aptly qualified to work with CTE students who are starting to plan their first steps into a life beyond high school.
I am a proud graduate of Texas State University, with a BFA in Communication Design, in San Marcos and enjoy returning often to the hill country to enjoy the rivers and rolling hills. In addition to reading, gardening, and anything outdoors, I have a considerable passion for travel, culture, food, and art.
There is no doubt that teaching is where I am meant to be. I truly love working with students and watching as they learn to tap into their own creativity. I was honored as the 2019 Career and Technical Association of Texas (CTAT) Area 7 CTE New Teacher of the Year.
