Texas ACE After School Program

SUMMER CAMP APPLICATION LINK: WILL BE POSTED IN THE SPRING

alveston ISD, in partnership with the Moody Foundation and the Texas ACE grant, has developed afterschool programs for students in Pre-K through Grade 12 at no cost to families. Each participating school builds a unique program staffed by trained teachers, support staff, and administrators to ensure a safe, engaging, and academically supportive learning environment for all students who attend.

Texas Afterschool Centers on Education

The federally funded Texas ACE program offers free, safe, and educational afterschool programming at six GISD campuses. This program is supported through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21st CCLC) grant, which was awarded in 2023 and provides funding through 2028.

ACE Afterschool programs are currently offered at the following campuses:

  • Ball High School (9th - 12th grade)
  • Crenshaw Elementary & Middle (Pre-K - 8th Grade)
  • Austin Elementary (3rd & 4th grade)
  • Burnet Elementary (3rd & 4th grade)
  • Oppe Elementary (3rd & 4th grade)
  • Parker Elementary (3rd & 4th grade)

Each program is led by a full-time site coordinator who tailors services to meet the needs of students, families, and the campus community. Site coordinators work closely with campus administrators to complement and extend school-day learning. While each program is unique, all offer a variety of enrichment activities along with homework assistance and academic tutoring.

The site coordinators are supported by an administrative staff which includes a Project Director and a Family Engagement Specialist. We employ staff from both GISD and the local community to lead activities and support students. In addition, we partner with community organizations and local businesses to expand opportunities for students and families.

Our community partners include organizations such as Groundswell’s Young Gardeners Program, Comp-u-dopt, UTMB’s Connect program, and Galveston Island State Park, as well as other local organizations.

We also host regular family engagement events, and work closely with the GISD Family and Community Engagement Specialist, Dr. Vivian Hernandez, to support families across the district.

In addition to the school-year programs, we offer summer programming for students from all participating campuses and, as capacity allows, students from other GISD campuses as well.
