The Texas Association of State Systems for Computing and Communications (TASSCC) presented Galveston ISD's SAIL program with the Community Service Award at their annual conference at Moody Gardens. SAIL was recognized for their innovation and use of technology to connect students to school through the COVID pandemic. SAIL Principals Dr. Julia Ramirez, Michelle Hammonds, and Michelle Pedalino, along with Dr. Gibson, were presented a check for $13,747.

TASSCC is a group of professionals from various businesses, colleges and hospital systems throughout the state of Texas who come together each year to advance education and networking by supporting Information Technology (IT) for the Texas public sector.

“We would like to thank the TASSCC for this recognition. The determination and resiliency of the students, teachers, and staff at SAIL during the 2020-2021 school year is something to be commended," says Dr. Ramirez. "We appreciate the honor, and are grateful to the TASSCC members for their donations to the students of Galveston ISD. We want to put this money toward a STEAM (science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics) bus that can travel the district as a mobile learning lab for our students.”
