GALVESTON, TEXAS – Aug. 8, 2022 – The Mike Evans Family Foundation recently recognized students who graduated from Galveston ISD’s Teen Parenting Program at Ball High School.

Heather Kilgore, the mother of Mike Evans who is a Ball High graduate and now a wide receiver for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the National Football League, is a graduate of the program herself as she gave birth to Mike when she was also a student at Ball High.

Kilgore, who is passionate about the program because of her own ties to it, presented student parents who graduated with checks for $1,500 each.

“What you’ve gone through is hard,” Kilgore said. “It is. But it doesn’t matter where you come from or what you’ve been through,” Kilgore said. “What matters is that you just keep going.”

The Mike Evans Family Foundation has supported GISD in numerous ways and continues to through a variety of offerings, such as the annual summer Mike Evans youth football camp.

“He doesn’t forget about what it means to be a student here,” Kilgore added. “He doesn’t forget about his mom.”

Check recipients spoke of their future plans, and expressed their gratitude to Kilgore and the foundation with smiles, words of thanks, and even tears.
