GISD's Family Community Engagement (F.A.C.E.) Department and St. Vincent's House are excited to announce the highly anticipated Back to School Blast, a community event aimed at providing essential supplies and resources to students as they prepare for the upcoming school year. The event will occur from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, at the Wright Cuney Recreation Center in Galveston.

The Back to School Blast is a collaborative effort between many community partners deeply committed to supporting the education and well-being of local students. This event serves as a crucial opportunity for the community to come together and help ensure that every child has the necessary tools to succeed.

As part of the Back to School Blast, we are collecting the following items for school-aged students:

- School supplies (notebooks, pencils, pens, crayons, backpacks, etc.)
- Gift cards for school necessities
- New clothing suitable for school
- Tennis shoes and sandals
- Hygiene products

Donations can be dropped off at Weis Middle School (7100 Stewart Road), Room 1A-151 starting July 24 through Aug. 3, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. We kindly request the community's support in making generous contributions that will directly impact the lives of these students and their families.

Additionally, we invite community members to volunteer their time to help make the Back to School Blast a huge success. Volunteers will be essential in organizing activities, distributing supplies, and providing support throughout this event. The Back to School Blast promises to be a day filled with free fun for the whole family. There will be a wide range of exciting activities, delicious food from the Lighthouse Charity Team, valuable resources, health screenings, vaccines, and much more! Attendees can look forward to an engaging and vibrant atmosphere that celebrates education and fosters a sense of community.

"We are extremely excited about the upcoming Back to School Blast," said Paula Tobon, the Executive Director of St. Vincent’s House. "This event allows us to rally together as a community and ensure that our students have the support and resources they need to excel. We encourage everyone to join us in this endeavor and make a positive impact on the lives of these children."

Dr. Vivian Hernandez, Executive Director of the GISD Family and Community Engagement (F.A.C.E.) Department, expressed her enthusiasm stating, "We believe that every child deserves a fair chance to succeed in school, regardless of their circumstances. The Back to School Blast is an opportunity to provide students with the tools they need to reach their full potential. We encourage the community to participate and contribute to this wonderful event."

The Back to School Blast is made possible by the generosity and dedication of local businesses, organizations, and individuals who share our commitment to education. We extend our heartfelt thanks to our sponsors for their support in making this event a reality.
