GALVESTON, Texas - December 10, 2021 - Galveston ISD is proud to announce that the district has been awarded a rating of ‘A’ for ‘Superior Achievement’ regarding the quality of its financial management and reporting system. The Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST) has given Galveston ISD the highest possible score of 100 for the 2020-2021 school year.

This is the 11th consecutive year that Galveston ISD has received this major recognition of the more than 1,200 Texas school districts and charters that are rated.

"To receive a perfect score from the state says a lot about how this district successfully manages its finances and follows through with its commitment to the taxpayers to be good stewards of public funds," says Galveston ISD Assistant Superintendent of Business & Operations Connie Morgenroth. “This rating not only shows our transparency with the community, but also goes a long way to instill confidence that our trustees and staff members are operating in the most ethical and responsible ways."

The School FIRST accountability system was developed by the Texas Education Agency with the primary goal of achieving quality performance in the management of school districts’ resources throughout the state. The FIRST ratings are based on a number of financial indicators, including operating expenditures for instruction, tax collection rates, student-teacher ratios and long-term debt.
