Shop fresh local produce grown by GISD Students on May 7, 2022

GALVESTON, Texas - April 22, 2022 - Galveston’s Own Farmers Market (GOFM) and Crenshaw Environmental Science Magnet team up to host the 2nd annual Young Gardeners Program (YGP) Garden Market!

Slated for Saturday, May 7 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM, locals and visitors can shop fresh produce grown by the students from all over Galveston ISD. Patrons can expect seasonal vegetables like green beans, cucumbers, tomatoes, leafy greens, summer squashes and more.

“This is as local as it gets!” says Jennifer Hart, District Magnet Community Liaison at GISD. “The produce is coming straight from the gardens here at Crenshaw and from the other GOFM’s Young Gardeners Program garden beds in Galveston. The students love being in the gardens and more so, love sharing the vegetables they grew.”

Located in eight Galveston ISD schools, GOFM’s Young Gardeners Program is a part of the TOR Kids/Prep after-school program that teaches students how to grow healthy food, maintaining sustainable garden practices, recycling and composting and the science associated with gardening. The YGP Garden Market is an extension of the program – offering students the chance to gain entrepreneurial knowledge, work experience, and showcase their hard work.

“The love, stress, time and sweat that goes into successfully transforming seeds into food is an investment like no other. Our garden markets allow our students to proudly show off the actual ‘fruits’ of their labor to their community and understand the singular experience of getting paid for your hard work.” said Casey McAuliffe, Executive Director of GOFM.

Proceeds from the event will benefit GISD programming and GOFM’s Young Gardeners Program. Cash, Credit Card, and Paypal will be accepted. To learn more about the event, visit
