GALVESTON, Texas - June 22, 2023 – Jerald Temple has been named Galveston ISD’s new director of athletics as announced during last night’s regular meeting of the GISD Board of Trustees.

Born and raised in Galveston, Temple is a proud Ball High School graduate who has served in various roles throughout his 19 years with the district, including assistant athletic director, interim athletic director, assistant principal, and head boys basketball coach.

“I am honored to have this opportunity to continue to serve the children of this district and the community as a whole,” Temple said. “Having been reared in GISD, I am an example of how athletics can change lives for the better. It is my hope that we can continue to make these kinds of impacts on our student athletes.”

Temple holds a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Sciences degree from the University of Houston-Clear Lake and a Master of Education in Administration degree from Lamar University.

He will assume his new role effective July 1 in addition to remaining the district’s head boys basketball coach.
