Coastal Village Elementary Returns to Original Name, Rosenberg Elementary

Rosenberg Elementary:  Laboratory for Learning and Leading

(June 26, 2018) - At the June 20th Board Meeting, the Galveston ISD Board of Trustees voted to return the name of Coastal Village Elementary to the campus’s original and historical name, Rosenberg Elementary.

The name change will be accompanied by a campus redesign, focused on supporting a culture and climate dedicated to high levels of student and staff achievement. The board and administration strive to meet the needs of every student as we address the mission of GISD: To Educate, Engage and Empower EACH student for a life of Excellence. With the new structure in place, the district will concentrate on a learning and leading platform for both the students and staff. To reflect this vision, the new campus name will include the campus focus, “Laboratory for Learning and Leading”.

Rosenberg Elementary will be led by Executive Principal, Cathy Van Ness, former Austin Middle School Principal.  Mrs. Van Ness has a long and rich history with the district and a proven track record for student success.

This coming 2018-2019 school year, Rosenberg will serve pre-k through second grade, with the plan to add 3rd grade in the 2019-2020 school year, and then lastly to add 4th grade in the 2020-2021 school year.

The current rising 3rd and 4th graders will apply to one of three other campuses; Burnet Elementary, Morgan Elementary, or Parker Elementary. GISD will honor the Schools of Choice System and allow parents the opportunity to participate in a lottery choice process to attend their desired campus.  The siblings of the effected students will also be given the option to transfer campuses.

In order to assist during the transition period, an assigned GISD staff member will reach out to each of the families that have been impacted by the change. If you are among the families with former CVE rising 3rd or 4th graders, expect to hear from a GISD staff member by July 23rd.
