Ball High School ACT Scores Rise, Outperforming State and National Averages

 

GALVESTON, TX (December 10, 2018) – The 2018 ACT results were recently released and show Ball High School students generally outscoring the state of Texas. BHS’s average composite ACT score was 21.2 in 2018, compared to the State composite score of 20.6 and a national composite score of 20.8. BHS also brought up their composite score from a 20.3 in 2017.

 

The ACT is a national college admissions examination that measures what students learn in high school to determine their academic readiness for college. The ACT composite is the exam’s overall (composite) score, which combines the ACT’s four subject tests (English, mathematics, reading and science). ACT results are accepted by all four-year colleges and universities in the U.S.

 

“In a testing situation, comparing to the state allows our team to verify our gains or needs within the school.  It is very encouraging to see that we are pulling ahead of the state average, which means that our efforts our working!” Explains BHS Principal Joe Pillar. 

 

Not only did Ball High School pull ahead in the overall composite score, they also outscored the state in Mathematics, Reading and Science, and scored the same as the state average in English.

 

Ball High School’s average scores on the exam, by subject and composite (overall) score, are listed below:

 

2018 BHS ACT Scores:

English: 19.6

Mathematics: 21.0

Reading: 21.9

Science: 21.7

Composite (Overall): 21.2

2018 State ACT Scores:

English: 19.6

Mathematics: 20.6

Reading: 21.1

Science: 20.8

Composite (Overall): 20.6

 

 

BHS brought up scores in all categories from 2017: The average score ACT English section increased from 18.9 to 19.6 in 2018. The average score on the ACT Math section increased from 20.5 to 21.0 in 2018. The average score on the ACT Reading section increased from 20.6 to 21.9 in 2018. The average score on the ACT Science section increased from 20.9 to 21.7 in 2018.
