Galveston ISD School Recognized by Magnet Schools of America as a Nationally Certified Demonstration School
GALVESTON, TX (September 14, 2019)- Magnet Schools of America (MSA) has named 14 new nationally certified schools and 17 new certified demonstration schools. Galveston ISD magnet school Morgan Elementary Health, Medical Science and Engineering Magnet was recognized as a National Demonstration School.
This cohort’s 31 newly certified schools are located across 10 states: Arizona, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Louisiana, North Carolina, Nevada, South Carolina and Texas. Seventeen of the certified schools also were identified as National Demonstration Schools. Demonstration schools exceed the Standards of Excellence criteria and serve as learning models for magnets to replicate and study other innovative, theme-based curriculum. Among the 151 certified schools to date, 36 have been designated as National Demonstration Schools.
“We are so excited that our campus was recognized as a National Demonstration School,” said Divya Nagpal, Principal at Morgan Elementary Health, Medical Science and Engineering Magnet. “Our amazing staff works very hard to help our students grow academically, socially and emotionally. We will continue to teach and inspire our students to reach their highest potential.”
Magnet Schools of America’s National Institute for Magnet School Leadership (NIMSL) developed the certification program in 2016 as a roadmap for magnet schools to reach their fullest potential. Schools are assessed on the Magnet School Standards of Excellence, and per the five pillars of magnet schools, submit detailed examples of their work to promote diversity, close the achievement gap and implement an innovative curriculum, as well as encourage parent and community partnerships in their schools. Becoming a certified magnet school is a rigorous process that enables schools to strengthen their top qualities and gain national recognition for their success.
“We are thrilled to see the quality of magnet schools continue to rise across the country,” said Kelly Bucherie, Director for Magnet School Leadership at Magnet Schools of America. “Our certified schools set the strongest example for what’s possible when schools fully commit to the pillars of top magnet schools: pursuing innovative curriculum and professional development, diverse classrooms, academic excellence, high-quality instructional systems and family and community partnerships. The faculty, staff, administrators and communities behind these schools have achieved something incredibly special, and we’re proud to celebrate them.”
