Counseling & Student Support Services
At Galveston Independent School District (GISD), we prioritize the well-being of our students and staff by fostering their social and emotional health. Our dedicated team of counselors, mental health professionals, SEL Specialists, and Social Workers play a pivotal role within GISD. They are not only first responders when students require mental health support but also invaluable guides, assisting students in course selection, graduation pathways, and preparing for their future careers beyond their educational journey. They provide a web of support when students have needs.
School Counseling Program Components
At Galveston ISD (GISD), our counselors are dedicated to providing various services to support our students, aligning with the Texas Comprehensive School Counseling Program 5th Edition. This program encompasses four key components:
- Guidance Curriculum: GISD counselors offer guidance lessons in both small and large group settings, aiming to nurture positive social and emotional development, encourage healthy behaviors, and promote mental health awareness.
- Responsive Services: We ensure that all students have access to on-campus school counselors who can provide guidance and support for personal and social concerns.
- Individual Planning: During this phase, GISD counselors actively assist students as they map out and track their educational and career development.
- System Support: Our counselors engage in one-on-one sessions with high-risk students, facilitate student support groups, conduct risk screenings, and help design appropriate intervention strategies as required.
These four components collectively shape our commitment to ensuring the comprehensive well-being and success of our students at Galveston ISD.
