What's New in GISD Technology?

Introducing Windows 11

Galveston ISD is migrating from Windows 10 to Windows 11, which gives us a great opportunity to modernize our school's devices and improve student and teacher experiences. Windows 11 introduces a range of new features that can enhance the learning experience and streamline IT management in schools.

Here’s are some basic features included with Windows 11 that are tailored for educational use:

Improved Snap Layouts

  • Snap Layouts allows users to quickly organize multiple open apps or documents, which is ideal for multitasking in classrooms. Teachers and students can work with multiple windows open side-by-side.
  • Snap Groups are also great for students to quickly switch between frequently used apps.

Microsoft Teams Integration

  • Windows 11 deeply integrates Microsoft Teams for Education. Teachers and students can easily access Teams meetings, assignments, chats, and shared resources directly from the taskbar.
  • The Microsoft Whiteboard integration offers a collaborative space for virtual learning.

Improved Security

  • Windows Hello allows for secure sign-in using facial recognition or fingerprint, enhancing security for students and teachers.
  • TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot make Windows 11 more secure out-of-the-box, which is especially important in a school environment.
  • Windows Defender provides built-in antivirus and malware protection to safeguard against digital threats.
