PC Troubleshooting

I cannot log in to my PC:

Ensure that:

1. Correct login information is entered/displayed:

a. Check the username

b. Enter correct password - Check CAPS-LOCK

2. Network cable is connected to port in back of the computer:

a. Left LED solid and Right LED will flash

b. If connected through a small desktop switch, ensure that it is plugged into a working wall outlet or surge protector and that the port lights are blinking.

If your PC will not power on:

Ensure that:

1. Power cord is securely connected to PC;

2. Power cord is plugged into a working wall outlet or surge protector;

3. If a surge protector is in use, it is plugged into a working wall outlet and powered on;

4. PC power supply is set to correct voltage (115). You can check this by looking at the red voltage switch on the back of the computer where the power supply is located.

If your PC is running slow:

Restart your computer properly:

1. Start -> Shutdown

2. Once it is shutdown completely, then push the power button to turn it back on.

Restart your computer manually (if unable to Restart as noted above):

1. Press and hold the power button until your computer shuts down.

2. Once it is shutdown completely, then push the power button to turn it back on.

If your PC has no video - and you know the PC is on:

Have you checked all cables, restarted your printer, and verified that Windows is able to see the printer?

How to connect to a network printer:
Print jobs do not come:

How to connect to a network printer:

1. Click on the Windows Start Button to access the Search Menu.

2. Type the following server address: \\print-svr, then hit the Enter key.

3. Scroll through the listing to locate the printer that you need to connect to.

4. Right click on that printer and choose Connect.

5. Connecting is complete, set as default printer if applicable.

NOTE: If you are adding a printer that is not in your classroom or area, please get permission to connect and print prior to connecting to an office, classroom, or other non-public printer.

Restart the printer. Check the printer in Windows to ensure there are no jobs being held (Start button - choose Devices and Printers) * Remember - you cannot delete jobs that someone else has sent to the printer. If connected through a small desktop switch, ensure that it is plugged into a working wall outlet or surge protector and that the port lights are blinking. Open printer door to see if there is any paper jammed. If none of those apply, restart the printer.
